What is an open neutral?

An open neutral occurs when there is a break or discontinuity in the connection between the neutral wire and ground wire in an electrical system. This can cause an imbalance in the flow of current between the two hot wires, potentially leading to issues with voltage levels and fluctuations in electrical equipment. It can also create a dangerous situation if electrical devices become energized with voltage that should be going through the neutral wire. Open neutral problems are more common in older or poorly maintained electrical systems and can be detected and repaired by a licensed electrician.
